Mythology & Lore coming to 816 H St NE

Mythology & Lore the modern chophouse and lounge that was previously slated to open at 1005 H St has finalized plans and is coming to fruition on H Street at a new location.  816 H Street NE was recently home to Fever Bar & Lounge and was where HR-57 originally located when it arrived on H Street and will now be substantially renovated to house Mythology & Lore

The concept comes to us via the Atlas Room's opening General Manager Mark Medley and owner Todd Luongo.  The duo plan to offer a modern Chophouse menu with a quality wine program and rotating craft beers.

Medley was an integral part of the opening team at the Atlas Room and brings over 30 years in the DC restaurant industry including past stints at Mark & Orlando's, Vidalia, and Pesce.  Luongo grew up in the restaurant industry working the counter and grille at his father's breakfast and lunch dinette and worked at restaurants through college before launching his career in enterprise technology.  After years in Silicon Valley, Luongo's software company brought him to the DC area where he manages a number of businesses and investments.  He's excited to return to the restaurant industry and is thrilled to have finalized his longstanding plans to open here on H Street.

Luongo tells us that "after an extensive search, we feel like we have found the absolute ideal location for the Mythology / Lore project. We are excited to be in a position to contribute to the next phase of the rebirth of the amazing H Street neighborhood. We think Mythology / Lore will serve as key cornerstones to this community for many years to come."  Stay tuned for more details on this exciting new concept as the project moves forward through buildout over the next several months.

Luongo & Medley celebrate their new lease by taking down the for lease sign at 816 H St

Capitol Hill Public Schools Parent Organization to Sponsor Education-focused Candidate Forum
on March 6, 6:30-8:00 pm at Stuart-Hobson Middle School

On Thursday, March 6, the Capitol Hill Public Schools Parent Organization (CHPSPO) will sponsor a forum with candidates running in the April 1 primary for the Ward 6 city council seat. The forum will focus on education issues.

Emma Brown, education reporter for the Washington Post, will moderate the discussion.

The forum will be held March 6, 6:30-8:00 pm at Stuart-Hobson Middle School, 410 E St., NE.

CHPSPO is working with students from all three Ward 6 middle schools -- Eliot-Hine, Stuart-Hobson, and Jefferson-- to involve their student governments and social studies classes in planning the forum. Two partner organizations – Future Civic Leaders and the DC Urban Debate League – will help prepare students to participate in the forum. Students will learn about asking good questions of candidates for public office, they will formulate the first set of questions for the candidates, and they will ask questions of candidates at the forum.

This is an important time in our city for many important education issues-- from funding, to boundaries and feeder patters, to preschool education, to school quality across the district, and school choice. Join us to hear Ward 6 City Council candidates address these education issues – and ask them your questions.

Not only will this forum help our community learn more about our candidates' positions on important education issues, it will be a chance for middle schools students to interact directly with candidates for office – and practice skills of future civic leaders.

Ward 6 School Boundary & Feeder Pattern Community Meetings 2/13, 2/18 & 2/19

For the first time in nearly 40 years, the District of Columbia is undertaking an effort to review school assignment policies including school boundaries and feeder patterns for public school children.  School choice and student assignment policies establish the access rights that students have to public schools in the District of Columbia. School choice and student assignment policies determine who gets to go to which school, where and how parents and students apply to school, what rights students have to remain in a school they have chosen, and what rights students have to transfer between schools.

Ward 6 parents and community members are invited to join the Ward 6 representatives on the Deputy Mayor of Education’s (DME) Advisory Committee on Student Assignment for an opportunity to share your views, ideas and recommendations on:

Your experience with the current student assignment and choice policy (including lotteries)

School boundaries for elementary, middle and high schools for Ward 6 families

Feeder patterns for middle and high schools

Bridging student assignment and choice policies across DCPS and Charters School

COME TO ANY OR ALL OF THE COMMUNITY MEETINGS

All Meetings are from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (6:00 p.m. - arrival)

3rd & H to reopen to pedestrian & vehicular traffic today thanks to streetcar construction progress

Intersection of 3rd Street NE and H Street NE Will Reopen to Vehicular and Pedestrian Traffic

On Monday, February 10, 2014, the intersection of 3rd Street NE and H Street NE will reopen to pedestrian and vehicular traffic; weather permitting. All pre-existing 3rd Street NE detours and turn restrictions will be lifted and all lanes in both directions will be open.
All turning movements allowed before the closure of 3rd Street NE will be restored.
Crosswalks at 3rd Street NE and H Street NE will be reopened and pedestrians will be able to cross in all directions. A temporary crosswalk is still in place at the top of the Hopscotch Bridge for pedestrian access to Union Station. Pedestrians are advised that the south sidewalk on Hopscotch Bridge adjacent to the Plaza Place development is currently closed due to construction unrelated to the DC Streetcar project.
Traffic signals will be restored to normal patterns and the flashing yellow signals turned off. Once the streetcar is fully operational, a dedicated streetcar signal will control streetcar traffic through the intersection. All traffic should continue following the traffic signals at all times.
The westbound X2 bus stop that was moved from 3rd Street to 4th Street will remain until further notice.

Randall Scott Projects (1326 H St) presents Venice from Chris Anthony through 2/22

RandallScottProjects is pleased to announce our next exhibition by Los Angeles based photographer, Chris Anthony  “Venice” continuing through February 22nd.

Chris Anthony's Venice Series continues his exploration into the photograph as open-ended narrative. As in his earlier work, specifically the Victims and Avengers series, Anthony crafts a scene, similar to a stage production, where the viewer is given the actor and a selection of props. Relationships are made within the scene and a "play" develops in which the viewer becomes the playwright.

In the Venice Series, Anthony exchanges the traditional notion of a wooded stage and painted backdrop for the shoreline and sky. His players perform in the water, just out of reach of the incoming waves. They interact and execute various actions: ride a bicycle, play an instrument, sweep the water with a broom, all without concern of their environment. Anthony's underlying theme is a society that has developed in and on water. Venice, carrying a double meaning calling reference to Venice, Italy and Venice Beach, California, where the series was photographed.

Anthony's images are playful and often incorporate a solitary figure. His subtle usage of color contrasts the painterly greyness of a background sky and sea. Swashes of bright reds and yellows are worn by his subjects. Anthony styles his characters in a manner of dress that crosses the boundary of retro-uniform fashion, somewhat post-apocalyptic in design, yet akin to a futuristic fashion layout.
Chris Anthony was born in Sweden and now lives and works in Los Angeles. He is a filmmaker and photographer. His current book, Seas Without a Shore was released in 2013.
